What students, staff, and community members are saying about Paws & Peers

  • Adams Elementary

Principal Montez offered me the chance to expand my reach by becoming a part of Pawsitive Peers. I found that my Paw Partner Indie filled in the gaps when I fell short. She caught the kids in their little moments and had a knack for knowing which student needed her to sit near them. Their love for her is so great that classroom attendance improved when she was on campus.

The last day of school was hard for my class. They broke out into tears as they hugged each other, me and Indie. I was so grateful for the little family we built. I’m grateful Mesa has created a program that has allowed me a chance to grow and impact lives in a time when this profession can be so challenging.

Chester and I love being a part of the program. It is very rewarding to see the joy he brings to our school community. Having him also helps me connect with students I may not have been able to connect to as easily.

  • Shepherd Junior High

A few dozen of my students took a survey about the program at Shepherd. Students responded that Bella brings them calm, and joy, and improves their mood. When asked what should be changed, many said more dogs on campus. I only bring Bella once per week, mainly because of her age and the extra time it takes from my routine. I am trying to get more staff to join the program as I know it has made a positive impact at our school.

This program is an absolute game-changer. The students at MVT love Mac so much and are sad when he goes to Red Mtn with Amber. Haha!

  • Carson Junior High

I honestly believe this is the best program ever the dogs at Carson are helping the students and the teachers and other adults on campus it's just neat to see dogs part of the daily routine.

"This is to convey appreciation and applause for the PAW Partner champion, in my opinion, Phoenix. A shelter rescue who has seemingly RESCUED my positive attitude. I realize the dogs were supposed to ideally assist our students, but it's been MY experience that Phoenix lifts the spirit of the STAFF. Our morale was at an all-time low (in my 22-year career) and I can't explain how a simple 5-minute interaction with behind-ear rubs and doggie slobber can literally TURN my mood 180 degrees, so swiftly! Mornings of enhanced mood-lifting energy have been witnessed numerous times this year, allowing us to feel more motivated in the arduous daily task we undertake as educators. I am NOT ALONE in regard to the applause we want to share with all the extra work the staff who bring their furry ones do. We are grateful and thank you!
